Three years after originally getting a place in RideLondon, I’ll be competing in this year’s 100 mile bike ride, from London to Surrey and back again.
In 2013, a year after completing my cycle from John O’ Groats to Land’s End, I got a ballot place and couldn’t have been more excited.
Having only used hybrid tyres on a mountain bike, I decided to go all out and buy a Trek road bike, along with SPD SL cleats, pedals and cycling shoes.
Did I stop there? Of course not!
Having had a rather dramatic crash, I needed a new helmet, so I obviously had no choice but to buy gloves, shorts, jerseys, glasses and anything else I could find to accompany it.
Then I ended up in hospital, deferring my place until 2014.
This was until I ended up bedridden with tonsillitis in 2014, and went travelling in 2015.
So… 2016 is the year! With the cycle officially being THIS WEEKEND, I’ve upped the training, have got used to being clipped into my bike again and am excited to see what the race brings.
I’m fundraising for the Hospice of St Francis, an incredible charity which brings people opportunities in their final days, which they would not otherwise have.
If you can’t donate, I’d love a share just as much, to spread word of the incredible work the hospice do. Check out my page at http://www.justgiving.com/hollylworthington.
Thanks, and stay tuned for updates!
